Hello All, I have an ADI Pilot II installed in an RV-9A which seems to work well except for a couple of problems. I have the trim sensing servo in the pitch channel and in altitude hold it works ok but the left most digit in the track display shows a horizontal bar moving from bottom to top continously. The airplane is in trim when I disengage the altitude hold. Any idea what could cause this? Also, panel dimming works when turned on but when turned off, the track display and annunciators are too dim to see.
Thanks, Tracy

Tracy,

Does the scrolling bar in the left digit ever go away? If not, it is a failure of one input on the processor. It will not affect the way the autopilot flies, but will not go away without being sent in for repair. Just PM me your full address and phone number, I'll send you an RMA number to return it for repair.

What do you mean panel dimming works when turned on but not off? If you leave the dimming ciruit open, the internal lighting will be off and the LEDs will be in full brightness mode. If you apply 12 volts (or 24 to the corresponding input) to it, the internal lighting is on as well as the LEDs. When your dimmer system shuts "off", it must be feeding nearly 0 volts to that circuit for it to return to the "open" result. If your dimmer system is feeding even 2 volts to it, it will be enough to just put it in very low brightness.

Hi Lucas, To answer your question, the scrolling bar always appears whenever alt hold is engaged. The first digit of the track replaces it when alt hold is disengaged. I meant to say that with the instrument dimming switch on, dimming works normally. When dimming is off the track display and annunciators are very dim. I will check the dimmer input for voltage with dimming off this weekend. Thanks for the help!
