I just purchased a new Trutrak ADI with gps.

After reading the installation instructions I checked Vans Air Force forums to see how others had handled the static port connections. I found several posts that described a large internal leak in the ADI when it is connected to the static system. These posts said that Trutrak told them that this was normal. Why does the instrument have a static port connection that leaks internally?

I feel uncomfortable about just porting the ADI to cabin air. What have others done and, more importantly, why is there a internal leak in the first place?

Can anyone shed some light of this?

Hi Jim,

There is no internal static leak. I'm not sure how that info got started. There were some of the old ADI's with the plastic casing that got cracked in the pitot/static fitting area due to overtightening of fittings.

If you are uncomfortable using it vented to the cabin, please do connect the static system.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
