I saw in another thread that you suggest to vent the static port to the cabin.
When doing so, do you suggest putting any kind of fitting in the port. I was thinking about installing a 90 degree 1/4 NPTF to 1/4 Tube elbow and point the tube end downward to protect the unit from getting any dirt.
Thoughts?

My "Alternate Static" does exactly that (I have a selectable valve). The source is wide open, angled towards the floor. The tube from there to all other instruments is long enough that I don't worry about a stray mote of dust getting to the instruments, but if you simply have the back port open I would suggest something like a cigarette filter to prevent dust getting in there.

Does your selectable valve also go to an external static? I like cigarette filter idea. I was thinking of cheese cloth under the flare nut. Thanks for the help.

Yes, turned one way the valve routes static from the external static ports, turned the other way it opens to the cabin.
Cigarette filter should be fine for static, maybe not so good as a restrictor for manifold pressure - search Van's forums on "cigarette" and "MAP" for an interesting read...
