Lucas,

I am finishing the installation of a Digiflight II roll/pitch autopilot.

The roll servo bracket shipped is a one piece weldment which looks like a circular clamp with an ear welded on. The original design would have you slide the bracket on the shaft of the control rod. On an RV8 this is not possible as the control rod is a weldment on which the sticks are attached. The bracket must consequently be opened up way beyond its elastic limit. in my case opening up the bracket cause a crack to develop perpendicular to the welded ear.

Would you have a new bracket better fitted for the RV8 ? Or must I have one made as a two part piece which clamps onto the control rod ?

Thanks,
Michèle

Hi Michele,

Check the crack to see if it's just a crack in the primer. We have never had one actually crack when being installed. Let me know. Thanks!

Thanks Lucas,

The bracket is installed - if I remove it I'd have to open it up again which could do more harm. But I do believe it is a crack as the metal got crimped. It was not a smooth bend as would occur with plastic deformation but a sharp bend which seems to indicate metal failure. And there was a visible hariline crack which could be a primer only crack as you suggest.

ANyway, I'd like to purchase a new bracket and shall use the current one for testing the system.

Once I install the new one I'll be able to positively determine whether the current one is cracked.

So, in the short term, please let me know how to proceed to purchase the new bracket as I do not see it in your order form.

Thanks,
Michèle - RV8 - France
