I am doing some preliminary bench testing of a new system with an AFS AP and a G430W. I have an external toggle switch to be able to switch ARINC to the AP from either the AFS unit or directly from the 430 (per the AFS ARINC wiring diagram). I do not yet have the AFS EFIS connected.
With the system on, and the 430 with a position fix, the GPS asterisk is blinking - so far so good!
If I press the EFIS button, I get 'EXT LS' on the display with the external toggle switch in the '430' position. What does that mean? If I put the external toggle in the AFS position, 'EXT LS' goes away, and I go to the 'normal' AP screen (Bank angle, etc.). Is this correct?
Is there a way to test ARINC communication from the 430 to the AP without the EFIS connected?
I am not getting 'GPSS' displayed, even though I have an active waypoint on the 430. Is this OK (probably so since there's no EFIS connected)?
Thanks
