Lucas,
My RV-10 won't be flying until next spring at the earliest, so it could fall within the release time frame for the Gemini products.
How will the 880 compare to the DigiFlight II VSGV? Obviously, the EFIS features are different. Will the AP and external interface features be comparable?
thanks,
bob

Hi Bob,
The 880 features will be exactly like the DII VSGV with the addition of Altitude Select and VNAV. You'll still get the same type of capability with external EFIS control in GPSS/GPSV modes.
It will not have a touch screen interface as it will have two knobs and three buttons. Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions!

Lucas,
As I’ve indicated previously, I’m planning on installing a Gemini 880 in my RV-10. I'm not planning on flying until the spring, so the timing is good provided there aren't any major delays in the products release.
However, in laying out my panel, I've discovered a couple panel modifications I'll need to make to accommodate the Gemini 880. You can see my layout on my Kitlog Site (http://www.mykitlog.com/users/display_log.php?user=rleffler&project=260&category=0&log=105318&row=1). Where I’ve got the Gemini 880 located is also where the support brace for the panel is also located. I’m assuming the width and height dimensions are similar to the ADI II for a standard 3.125 hole. What is the approximate depth of the device? The reason I’m asking is to determine if I have to cut an access hole in the RV-10 subpanel to accommodate. It’s a whole lot easier to make these accommodations now before the upper fuselage assembly is mounted.
Also, I assume that it will be sensitive to pitch variations in mounting like the other APs and needs to be mounted in the same vertical plane as the standard panel. I'm also assuming that canting the hortizontal orientation (i.e. towards the pilot) doesn't make a difference.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,
The depth of the Gemini is going to be about 2.5" overall. The pitot and static ports will be integrated instead of the block attached to the back. The dimensions for the cutout are the same as the ADI Pilot II, but it will be a little bit different as far as the mounting holes go.
It will still need to be mounted like the others. Any deviation of more than about 10° will cause issues with proper flight. As close to 0° deviation from each axis as you can get is preferable. Thanks!

This is good to know, I almost had my panel cut with the ADI II mounting holes. I was hoping to get my panel cut with a perfect hole waiting for the Gemini.
When do you think the mounting dimensions will be published?
thanks!

As soon as we have something finalized I'll post it here. Thanks!

So we've just passed the year mark on this thread. Is there any physical information that you can share?
Previously, you mentioned that the AFS version of the 880 would be available shortly after Airventure. Is that still on target?
I'm on track to be flying in October. My preference is the Gemini. Should I wait or should I proceed with the current product?
thanks,
bob

Ah, you're looking for the AP versions. Well, things didn't go as planned in the latter half of last year. We lost six full months of development time due to not being able to get displays or display controllers (some large, fruit-named company took them all :) ). So we're at least six months behind at this point. We will have the instrument versions ready this fall, but the AP versions will not be available until later. If you're dead set on having an AP for your first few months of flight, my only suggestion would be to get one of the current products. If you can do with just the instrument for that time being, you can install the servos ahead of time, and just upgrade the PFD to one of the AP versions as they become available. Thanks!

Thanks for the update! It wasn't the news I was looking for, but I can now make a decision and move forward. Now my decision is now to choose from a Gemini PFD vs. Dynon D6 vs. MGL Exreme as a back up. I'll stop by the booth at OSH and say hello.
