The EFIS is the AF-3500 with latest version 7.1.04 and ARINC V4.0.
The AP is a 2007 D-IIVSGV running version 2.24.
Garmin 430.
With the EFIS displaying AP Mode L:HDG V:ALT
The AP is displaying GPSS GPSV FLG
If I select the EFIS heading bug and set a heading the AP turns and takes up that heading as it should.
I am unable to make the AP climb or desend to any height by setting the altitude bug on the EFIS.
Lucas, I briefly spoke with you on the phone last week.
1/ Is there any AP settings I should check?
2/ You briefly mentioned that there may be an issue with the 7.1.04 in the EFIS and I may need the AP software upgrade.
3/ I'm happy to pay freight for sending the AP to and from the other side of the world for an upgrade from 2.24. Does that give me a better chance of getting the V: ALT to talk to EFIS ALT setting?
4/ Can you clarify any advantages in paying the $250 for the upgrade (happy to do it if there are advantages)?
5/ I guess you would suggest changing the screen if it is likely to crap out?
Thanks Dave.

Dave,
You will definitely need the software update in the AP. Everything will work correctly together then. Send me a PM with your address and all contact info, I will reply with an RMA number for returning it for the update.

Lucas,
I have the same setup except that I am running v2.28 in the AP. I cannot get any LAT or VERT control from the EFIS. AFS says I need the AP updated. Do you agree?

Bret,
You also need an update. You have to have version 2.30 or later. PM with your full info and I'll issue the RMA number. Thanks!

I have D2-VSGV running 2.24. I'm now in the process of wiring my panel up so that I can drive the A/P from either my GNS430W or my AF3500. Based on the above, I need an RMA.
One additional request: I'm trying to understand what the functional differences are between the d2vgsv or special afs version when driving the A/P from my AF3500?
If I were to upgrade to the special AFS version, would I still be able to use the a/p with the gns430w independently of the af3500?
My A/P has the magnetometer. I assume I will still have this after a new firmware update, but I will lose this if I upgrade to AFS. Correct?

Correct on all counts. You will keep the magnetometer with a software update. Upgrading to the AFS Pilot, you will lose it.
The main difference is system integration. One button press gives you full control of the AP from the EFIS. You will also be able to engage and disengage the AP from the EFIS (this may be a future update to the AFS system, so you might check with them).
The AFS Pilot can still work independently from the GNS430.

Still considering conversion from D2VSGV to AFPILOT.
I will have a selector switch to allow me to switch between the ARINC lines coming from the 430W and the AF3500.
When the AF-PILOT is connected only to the GNS430W, is there any functional difference (loss of function), versus running the D2VSGV with the GNS430W?
This comment on the AF3500 site from their Tech support confuses me:

"The AFS Pilot does not have a GPS Nav mode. All other features are the same as well as offering better integration with the AFS systems."

DOH! Need to go back and edit my post. It does have it now. There is no loss of function.
