I'm very interested in alternative engine use and just wondered if anyone here was using one. If so, what are you using? Self designed? Was it a kit? Thanks!

I don't have an alternative engine, but I am using a new Electronic ignition system. I went with a Precision Eagle EMS for fuel injection and electronic ignition on my Lycoming IO-320 D2. Full control of engine and mixture by two computer systems, with redundant sensors for each. My panel has a mixture potentiometer to go LOP after reaching cruise. Other then that, the mixture is completely computer control, just like a car. Hot starts are not an issue as you maintain high fuel pressure at all times. I also don't need a fuel return line with this system. I can't wait to get up in the air to get a first hand look at how the plane will perform.

Ooooo! Me likey! See? This is what I'm talking about. I understand the draw of "simplicity" for carbed engines, but we have so much technology available to us there just has to be a way to get that into in the aviation world. I think a major holdup is the general market. Tried and true is the motto. I also completely understand this regarding aviation, but I firmly believe we need to get the tools that we have INTO the industry.
I applaud you for making that choice! Please report back when you get it flying and let us know what you think.
