View Full Version : Locking onto a route.

I still can't seem to get the Digitrak to lock onto a route selected in the GPS. When the two buttons are pushed, the airplane will sometimes turn as much as 270 degrees one way, then 60 - 90 degrees the other way and then finally decide to follow the selected route. Once it is locked on, it seems fine. With this behavior it is not possible to use it in the company of other aircraft because I can't trust its initial behavior.

EDIT: Just saw in another of your posts that you have a 495. What output setting are you using? There are two output settings that will work. One is just NMEA OUT, the other is NMEA/VHF OUT. One of them runs at a baud rate of 4800 and the other at 9600 (I can't remember off the top of my head which is which). Choose the one that is running at 4800 baud and see if that takes care of the problem.
Also, when did you purchase your Digitrak? Thanks!

I don't know if the 495 is the same as the 496, but I seem to remember that you could choose the speed.
Just remember that Serial #2 DOES NOT WORK on the 49x models - you have to use Serial #1. Also, you MUST make sure that both the 496 and the TruTrak share a common ground. If, for example, you were running the 495 on battery power and ONLY had the serial line connected, it will not work. You probably hooked the red and black wires up to aircraft power, but I'm just sayin'...

You may be right on the selectable baud rate. I can't seem to find our 496 here to test. My memory is wanting to tell me that each of the acceptable modes locked in to it's corresponding baud rate. You could use the 49x in either rate, but it depended on the selected output type. If I dig up the 496 here, I'll check it out. Thanks!

I am using the 4800 baud rate and am using aircraft power to run both the Digitrak and the 495. I purchased the Digitrak 3 months ago.

Try the 496 on the other setting. Use Aviation In/NMEA & VHF Out. This sets the baud rate at 9600. Let me know the result. Thanks!
